LEGO® Space
LEGO® Space: from Classic Space to today
LEGO® Space began in 1978, alongside the first minifigures. The astronauts in red, white, yellow and blue suits with the familiar spaceship logo became icons. For many people who built space sets as children, LEGO® Space is still one of their favorite themes today.
The first generation is called Classic Space, with gray and blue ships and transparent yellow cockpits. This collection includes the Space Transport (918) from that period, for example, as well as classic vehicles such as the Cosmic Comet (6825), Crater Crawler (6826) and Seismologic Vehicle (6844).
Futuron, Blacktron and Space Police
In the 1980s, LEGO® Space split into subthemes, each with its own color and story. Futuron had white ships and blue transparent cockpits, Blacktron flew in black and yellow, and LEGO® Space Police hunted down the villains. From that era, you can find the Space Patroller (6830), the Message Decoder (6831), the Strategic Pursuer (6848) and the Alienator (6876), among others.
In the 1990s came Space Police II, Ice Planet 2002, Spyrius and Exploriens. Examples include the Galactic Peace Keeper (6886), the Ice Tunnelator (6814), the Spy-Trak I (6895) and the Scorpion Detector (6938). Each set indicates whether it is complete and whether the box and building instructions are included.
Space minifigures and new space sets
A LEGO® Space minifigure is often the starting point for a collection. Here you'll find Classic Space astronauts in different colors, Futuron, Spyrius and Space Police figures, and later figures from Life on Mars and Mars Mission. The original Space Mini-Figures set (6703) is also available.
LEGO® still releases tributes to the classic theme, such as the Blacktron Cruiser (40580), Alien Space Diner (40687) and Micro Rocket Launchpad (40712). You can find more vintage space sets at Vintage LEGO®, sets by year at LEGO® from 1987, and individual figures from all themes at LEGO® Minifigures.
