LEGO® Exo-Force: mechs, robots and plenty of action

LEGO® Exo-Force was released in 2006 and revolves around a conflict between human pilots and an army of robots. The heroes certainly do not climb into a modest vehicle: many LEGO® Exo-Force sets instead focus on large, movable Battle Machines and other futuristic machines.

The design has a distinctly manga- and anime-inspired look. Think expressive minifigures, striking hairstyles, colorful machines, large weapons and a generous dose of science fiction. Exo-Force is not subtle—and that is precisely why you can often recognize the theme at a glance.

The original series continued until 2008 and is no longer produced as an active LEGO® theme. As a result, you will mainly find LEGO® Exo-Force as older, used or still-unopened sets from existing collections.

What makes LEGO® Exo-Force sets so recognizable?

Mechs are at the heart of the theme. Well-known LEGO® Exo-Force mechs and sets include Grand Titan, Thunder Fury and Supernova. The theme also went beyond individual combat machines: the large Sentai Fortress, for example, is a complete base with multiple characters and vehicles.

The characters also give Exo-Force a very distinctive identity. Names such as Hikaru, Takeshi, Ryo and Ha-Ya-To belong to the human side of the story, while Meca One and the Iron Drones, among others, are part of the robot army. This makes LEGO® Exo-Force minifigures interesting for collectors who look beyond the machines and also enjoy the story behind the theme.

Over the years, the setting and design of the sets changed. The later Deep Jungle series from 2008, for example, introduced machines such as River Dragon, Assault Tiger and Chameleon Hunter. This means that even within one relatively compact theme, there is quite a lot of variety to discover.

Buying LEGO® Exo-Force: what should you look out for?

If you want to buy LEGO® Exo-Force, it is a good idea to first check the set number and the version you are looking for. With older LEGO® sets, the box, instructions, stickers, minifigures and specific parts can form an important part of the complete set.
